Llancaiach Fawr Manor
Nelson, Treharris, Caerphilly
Friday 22nd March
Llancaiach Fawr Manor in the village of Nelson was the destination for the latest trip of the WI, it was a terrible day to travel anywhere with driving rain and snow, but the intrepid Llanwenog travellers were undeterred.

On arrival at the Manor, members were transported again, but this time back through the ages to 1645. There was a warm welcome from the servants of the manor dressed in period costume and speaking in 17th century English.

A rabbit pelt on the kitchen table was to be used for "a muff for my lady" or possibly a part of a petticoat for "my lady". The house was not all that warm, so a rabbit petticoat would have come in handy under the circumstances, some members seemed to think. When it was time to leave, concern was shown by the servants, for the distance members must travel towards Lampeter, "One surely must find a hostelry overnight and procure a goodly change of horses". Assurance was given that this would be implemented and the carriage was summoned.
Several people said that it was the best outing ever, and despite the weather, that could well have been the case.
