Michael Morgan: My 40 years in the milk industry
5th Jan 2012
Drefach Village Hall
7.30pm
Michael Morgan came to talk about his 40 years as an employee of the Milk Marketing Board. Not perhaps the most scintillating of subjects, one might think, but there was a good turnout because most people had heard him speak before, and anyway, how could a talk about milk be dry?
He had collected together many old photographs, of the Felinfach creamery, showing the old butter churns and cream separators butter and cheese triers for testing the products before sale, right up to the time of the closure, when it was a modern and up to date plant with millions of pounds having been spent on it.
He was very sad to leave the creamery as he had been there since he left school, because it was well run and they had taught him all he knew. He then moved on to another creamery where he was promoted and travelled all over the world. His real passion though, seems to be collecting, and that he does on a large scale. There were milk churns, butter churns, cream pots, everything to do with the milk trade that ever existed, it seems, all lovingly displayed. Everyone was fascinated by the talk, because Michael adds the personal touch and his boyish enthusiasm is infectious.
