WELCOME 1

Welcome to the Custard Queens WI
We are a lively, friendly group of ladies who enjoy a wide range of activities both at our monthly meetings and socially. We are always looking for new things to do and enjoy sharing our time with each other.

Our History
The Custard Queens WI was set up in the spring of 2013 in Lampter town centre. We envisioned a craft focused WI that supported women of all ages. It was set up on a Sunday afternoon and members now meet up on the first Sunday of each month. The CQ’s membership quickly grew and by 2016 we had 30 members. Although we continued to focus on craft activities and speakers, we also began to arrange events outside of the meetings including a regular coffee catch-up on Fridays, interacting with local community events and supporting local charities including the Women’s Refuge. Our members began to ask about sub-groups including a singing group, teddy bear making, gardening and reading groups. These were very popular. Our membership continued to grow and by 2019 we had over 50 members. We were awarded both the Ceredigion and National Recruitment Award.
During Covid we held weekly zoom quiz night and created our very own CQWI newsletter. We began our photo competition which led to our CQ’s calendar. We continued the monthly members meetings through zoom and telephoned our members regularly to keep in touch. We made up Christmas and Easter gift bags, kept our social media pages active and started meeting up outside for picnics and dog walking as soon as it was permitted. Our membership continued to grow and we were asked to give a speech at the National WI AGM via Zoom to share our ideas.
In 2023 we had to move to smaller premises which has limited the number of members permitted, nethertheless we have reamained a small and friendly group. We have seen this as a positive move as it has given our members the opportunity to get to know each other better.
The ethos of the CQ’s remains to be one of support, friendship and having a good time,
