Our Meetings and Activities

We are a very active branch, meeting most weeks of the year and engaging in a wide range of shared activities.   Our main programme of autumn, winter and early spring meetings are a mixture of talks and activity evenings held at The Old School, our excellent village community centre - you will find venue information on our Welcome page. Talks cover a HUGE variety of topics, as can be seen by taking a look at our current and recent past  programmes. Through the summer months we make a number of visits to gardens and other interesting attractions and venues, both local and further afield.

Our Sub-Groups

There is a very active and well-established Book Club that meets once per month on a Friday morning – members of this group read and discuss a wide range of books chosen in turn by each member.

Participation in the Book Club is open to non-WI members, and there is an associated Craft Group which is also open to non-WI members – this group meets twice per month, also on a Friday morning.

Our Members

We are a very friendly vibrant group and place great emphasis on having fun together.  Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and this diversity means that it is very easy for new members to fit in. Although meetings are conducted almost exclusively through the medium of English, many of our longest serving members are Welsh speakers.  Llanilar WI prides itself in being an integral part of the village community, with links to all groups, clubs and organisations that provide mutual support and encouragement to one another.

What else do we do?

In addition to its own extensive programme, Llanilar WI members actively support and take part in most of the Ceredigion Federation events, including rallies and trips.  We have a number of members who are very clever with crafts and cooking who therefore have great success in the rallies. Trip destinations vary enormously and usually prove to be quite eventful adventures enjoyed by one and all – fortunately no member has been permanently mislaid on one of these trips – yet!!.

But this is not all.  There are 35 WIs in the Ceredigion Federation and these are organised into four groups – Helyg, Onnen, Derwen and Bedwen.  Each group meets twice per year; once in the Spring and once in the Autumn.  Llanilar WI belongs to the Derwen Group, along with the following WIs:
